Lost chance of sub40?

Wisdom tooth infection gave me 6 days without a run. After dentists telling me for 17 years now that they'll need to come out, I finally agree with them. Don't want that kind of pain in Nepal.

Bad news is they come out under GA next week - writing off Freo10k where I hoped to finally challenge the 40min 10k barrier.

My only chance is Gwelup this coming Sunday. Not the fastest course in the world, but worth a try.

Otherwise it's November and hoping some altitude training will improve my aerobic capacity.

Have run 4 of the last five days, 50k in total, and feel in sub 41min 10k form - just need to pace myself at Gwelup. Last year I started with a 3:35 1st k, hit 3k well under 4min pace then stopped at 5k having walked some of the final km! This year will be better, even if it's not sub40.

Best wishes to all - Rob in Sydney Marathon, Widi in the doldrums, Homo in surgery, Rich in getting back after the knee pain, and TB in the sixinch prep.

Goodness, just when you thought you had it all together! But the decision is right, I never regretted having mine taken out - and you are already looking at the bright side, it seems altitude training does last quite some time so you might want to look at one of the 10ks early next year.
All the best next week, I won't join you at Gwelup, still have the HM in my knee :-)

Keep those blog entries coming!

All the best with getting the tooth sorted out, I had one extracted beginning of this year, a bit of a drama for a week or two.

You have been on the cusp of a sub 40 all year IMOpinion, If it was me I'd be aiming for sub 38 in 2008.
Sounds very poetic, and IMO a realistic goal next year for you given your not spectacular, but very solid year of steady, consistent improvement in 2007.

My tax money has finally come and I am thinking seriously about doing Melbourne Marathon instead of just 6-inch. If I do, it will be thanks to the handful of runs in the last few weeks in my new shoes, that I have enough base in place to race it. Many Thanks again.

Nepal,Nepal,Nepal!!! Go conquer that base camp on the mountain of all mountains!!!
